PAINTING ORC STAR PLAYERS

By Andrew Lum

This article will show you how to paint up a couple of Orc Star Players for Blood Bowl. These particular Black Orcs are from Chris Pavey's Blood Bowl team The Drunken Knights (of Dubbo). You can see the whole team painted up in another article. I suggest if you haven't done so already, to read the article on painting Orc Linemen first.

Varag Ghoulchewer

Varag Ghoulchewer (filling in position number 1 on the Drunken Knight's roster as Gubbinz Trollthrasher) was prepared and undercoated exactly like the normal Orc linemen. I then painted the flesh with the same blending techniques but added more layers compared to a normal Orc. All the other details were finished off as normal. Varag also has furry bits on the top of his boots and the sides of his torso armour. They were first painted lightly in grey then given a drybrush of Skull White. Varag has much darker shading (particularly on his purple armour) to make him look mean and menacing.

Bomber Dribblesnot

Bomber was painted in exactly the same way as a normal Orc, however he took much less time as he didn't have all the armour and sunz logos. The writing "BOMB" was painted by putting a small amount of white on the brush and lightly dragging it across the writing. The brown belt was painted Bestial Brown and highlighted with Snakebite Leather.

Fungus the Loon

Fungus the Loon was painted slightly differently to the other members of the Orc team. Given a black undercoat, the drybrushing in Boltgun Metal was omitted as he does not have much metal bits. The skin was painted exactly the same as the other Orc miniatures. His robes were given a coat of Regal Blue and Lightly highlighted with Regal Blue mixed with Ultramarine Blue. Then all the metal bits were painted with Burnished Gold and highlighted with Shining Gold. Finally the ball and shoulder pad were painted with Liche Purple and highlighted with Liche Purple mixed with Skull White.
